Carrig traveled to Youghal on Saturday and with both teams on 12 points this was a very important match for both sides. The game was lively from the start and both teams were evenly matched. The home side grew in confidence and with the help of a strong wind started to test the Carrig defence but Connor O’Farrell was equal to anything Youghal threw at him. Heading for half time there was nothing between the sides but the ref gave a suspect free to Youghal on the edge of the box. Youghal took Carrig by surprise and scored a clever goal from a quickly taken free to make it 1-0 at the break.

Carrig were the better team in the second half and had Youghal pegged back in their own half for the full 45 minutes but could not find a way past a very good keeper. Carrig were confident on the ball and created a lot of very good chances but unfortunately wasted as many chances as they created. Stephen Folasade was a constant threath going forward and Shane Waters brought the best out of Youghal’s keeper with about 20 minutes remaining. Carrig showed great character and continued to press on in search of an equaliser and with only 10 minutes to go a great shot from Kevin Coady was deflected to the net to make it 1-1. In the final minutes Carrig attacked in waves but could not break down a strong a home defence and the game finished 1-1.
