Youths – Division 2
26th Sept 2020 at Lenaghamore Park
Everton A – 4
Carrigtwohill United – 1
With both teams sitting mid-table at kick-off, Carrigtwohill United were looking for an away win to push ahead. It would be a highly entertaining match which hinged on a 5 minute period in the second half.
It was the away side who had the bulk of possession and chances in the first half. Dawid Heflauk scored with a lovely finish from the left wing but it was 1-1 at half-time as Everton had pounced for an early goal.
The team were determined at half-time to push on for the winning scores. The first 15 minutes of the second half followed the pattern of the first, Carrigtwohill carving out chances and being unable to take them and Everton playing a direct style which was putting the defence under pressure on the break.
In a decisive passage of play, Carrigtwohill missed 2 guilt edged chances and Everton scored a 2nd goal, a super solo run from midfield, all within a 5 minute period.
So, it was a case of pushing ahead in search of an equaliser, which in fact left the away side more exposed and it was Everton who put the game beyond dispute with 2 more goal before the finish.
