Under-15 CSL Div 1
17th Sept at O’Shea Park
Blarney United – 5
Carrigtwohill United – 4
Carrigtwohill United came out the wrong side of a nine thriller in Blarney on Saturday lunchtime.
Captain Sean Og Madden gave the visitors an early lead with a stunning free kick from 40 yards on 7 minutes, the home side drew level on 13 minutes but Carrigtwohill were ahead again 5 minutes later when Roan O Keeffe won a penalty and Noah Nsengiyumva dispatched it with aplomb. The lead only lasted 2 minutes as Blarney equalised again and then went in front all before halftime.
The second half started frantically with the home side being awarded a penalty which they duly scored and then Rian Thornhill pulled a goal back for Carrigtwohill with a neat finish from his right boot, 4-3 and still a half hour to play. The game settled a little with Carrigtwohill dominating possession but Blarney always looked dangerous on the break and would score a fifth with 20 minutes left.
Rayhan Soumaila scored his first goal for the club when he bundled the ball home on the stroke of full-time and when referee David Quinn indicated there would be 5 minutes of injury time it set up a grandstand finish. Carrigtwohill pushed for a late, late equaliser through a series of corners and free kicks (even keeper Adam Lee wandered into the opposition box) but it wasn’t to be and Blarney were the victors 5-4!
A terrific effort from all, especially in the second half and boys deserved a point but such is football. We go again.
Carrigtwohill Scores: Sean Og Madden, Noah Nsengiyumva (p), Rian Thornhill and Rayhan Soumaila.
