Under-14A Gould Cup at Ballyphehane Park
Kilreen Celtic – 2
Carrigtwohill United – 3
Carrigtwohill played Kilreen Celtic in Cup on a perfect May evening in which both sides started playing attacking football.
Kane, in goal, was very alert when Kilreen pace got in behind the Carrig defence. At the other end Charlie and Adam came close to giving Carrig the lead. The defence of Ben Mc, Elijah, Darragh and Liam O were looking more solid as the game wore on, while Dylan, Divine , Liam C and Martin were having a great battle in midfield but neither side got the breakthrough and it was 0-0 at halftime.
Carrig freshened things up with John, Franek, Mantas and Sam making super contributions in the second half. On 50mins Carrig took the lead when Darragh’s free kick evaded everyone to end up in the bottom corner. Both sides were pushing for the next goal, Charlie struck the crossbar before Kilreen managed to grab an equaliser from all of 25 yards in the last minute to put the game into extra time.
Carrig once again took the lead 6 mins into extra time when Martin’s trickery won a penalty which he then converted. The game was over yet as Kilreen levelled again to make it 2-2. Carrig were now pushing for the winner and after some lovely passing down the left wing Martin was again fouled in the box to win and convert our second penalty.
That would turn out to be the winner 3-2 to Carrig.
This was a great game for the lads to win. They have shown great resilience over the course of the season and got the win their played deserved. Player of the match goes to all the lads for a great performance. Well done
