League v Leeside in Leeside Park on Friday 15th April 2016
Leeside 3 Carrigtwohill United 4
Scorer –
Robert Adam 4.

It had been 23 weeks since Carrigtwohill u14’s had last played a league game so a local derby away to Leeside was a great way to restart the season and the Carrigtwohill players certainly begun with a bang.

Within the first 3 minutes, Robert Adam put the visitors ahead with a super finish from the edge of the penalty box. This goal was followed by numerous chances as the Leeside defence struggled to hold the Carrigtwohill attack. On the 10 minute mark, Leeside were to strike back. A dangerous corner headed goal bound which was handled on the line. Unfortunately, this resulted in a penalty and a red-card – a double blow for Carrigtwohill. It would have been easy for Carrigtwohill to withdraw at this point but to their credit they upped their game with some superb performances throughout the pitch. The midfield trio of Alex Canty, James Barry and Lionel Kona were able to subdue the Leeside threat giving a platform to go ahead again on the scoreboard. 3-2 at half-time was a just reward for the team effort.

The second half was end to end. Both teams had good chances with Carrigtwohill guilty of poor finishing at times. It was with great relief that Robert scored his fourth goal after a mazy run on the wing by Adbul Rahim. Leeside were not finished and they kept pressing with Scott McCarthy in great form at centre back limiting them to half chances. In the final minutes, Carrigtwohill conceded an O.G. from a corner but this was not going to take the glow off a deserved derby win.

Robert Adam was to finish the game with four goals and a superb all round display but it was the team work that was most impressive on the night.

Player of the Match – Robert Adam.
