Under-15 CSL Div 1
8th October 2022 at Ballyadam
Carrigtwohill United – 3
Fermoy – 1
It was back to league action after last week’s exploits in the National Cup for Carrigtwohill United U15s as Fermoy were the visitors to Ballyadam on a bright Saturday morning.
Fermoy have always been tough opponents for Carrigtwohill over the years and the boys were looking to record their first competitive victory against the North Cork outfit.
United were full strength with all 18 players available and this gave management a selection headache (not for the first time this season).
The home side started well and took the lead on 13 minutes via ‘route one’, Adam Lee in goal punted a ball forward to the left wing and Sean Og Madden did the rest, controlling the ball beautifully, cutting inside, drawing the defender, and then curling one into the far corner past the keeper.
Fermoy looked a threat through the middle with many willing runners and kept the home rearguard on their toes but following some good defending and early distribution by left back Evan O Regan O Connor he too found Madden on the flank and the captain crossed for Rian Thornhill to finish well for Carrigtwohills second on 27 minutes.
The second half saw a resurgent Fermoy take the game to Carrigtwohill and the visitors would hit the framework of the goal three times before eventually getting a goal back with 20 minutes left to play. Carrigtwohill would have to dig in and defend well and keeper Lee produced a fine save, tipping the ball onto the bar to keep his side ahead until Kyle Kidney gave them the insurance goal late on after being put through by Tom Walsh. The 3-1 win lifts Carrigtwohill to the top of the table with 6 games played, best for the home side were Jarlath Cullimore, Noah Nsengiyumva and Sean Og Madden but man of the match goes to Niall Barry for a terrific display at right back, well done all.
