Under-12 Conboye Cup at Madden Park, Kinsale
Kinsale A – 0
Carrigtwohill United – 4
Carrigtwohill United Under-12 played the first round of the Albert Conboye Founders Cup away to Kinsale.
The lads started quite strong, making plenty of opportunities with James running and dribbling regularly on the left wing and Ryan doing some solid work on the right – and as always, Owen and Aaron causing havoc up front. A few great early opportunities, but the Kinsale goalie was proving hard to beat. On 21 minutes Owen went on a lovely mazy dribble through the Kinsale defence, the ball landed at Aarons feet who planted a “trademark-Aaron” placed finish to the goalies left…1-0 and the break we needed.
Sam was CDM for the night and went on a fine run shortly after, a cross led to Aaron again finding the bottom of the net – fine finish, and a second of the night for Aarons [his work rate on the night deserved both goals]
On 31 minutes, some fine work by Aaron to not let the ball go out of play, led to Owen instinctively planting a superb, first time curling shot from distance into the right hand of the goal – unstoppable, another quality finish by Owen.
Throughout this game, Bart was solid as always in goal – came off this line really well and also superb distribution of the football. Odhran and Patrick were terrific in defence, making some superb covering runs to foil some Kinsale attacks – a couple of speedy forwards certainly caused us trouble. Cian and Jack always dependable on the left side of defence, both their distribution and composure on the football was notable.
Sam wrapped up the win and a fine, controlled performance at CDM, with a run through the middle and a 1-2 with Aaron, to finish nicely to the right of the keeper on 50 minutes – 4-0 Carrig.
On the night, Luke Brennan was deserved Man of the Match, playing in a new position at right midfield. He worked hard getting back on defensive duties but also got forward lots and using the ball really cleverly – he was unlucky not to cap off his performance with a lovely outside of the foot shot that just went wide.
Player of the Match:- Luke Brennan
