Kevin Dillon Cup v Corinthians Boys B in Castletreasure on Saturday 8th November 2014
Corinthians Boys B 4  Carrigtwohill United 0
Another Kevin Dillon Cup match, which could get Carrig’s under 11s in the quarter finals of the founders’ cup. Corinthians B team seemed to be within range, but from the first minute of play it was evident that this would be a tough match for Carrigtwohill’s youngsters.

Corinthians are one of these clubs that have vast reservoirs of players and there was nothing “B” about that squad they fielded in this match. The first half was really played in Carrig’s own half, with a lot of pressure on the Carrig goals. Adam Rooney was on his toes in goals, and the whole team defended with gusto, but the 1V1’s too often went the wrong way and Corinthians managed to recycle the ball too easily when it was cleared in midfield. So it was 3 nil down at the break and Carrig had not threatened enough to be disappointed.

The second half was more balanced, but unfortunately, Carrig still could not find the net, despite good chances for Eric O’Sullivan and Darragh Ymedji. They were also caught on the break one last time to make it 4 nil. This was perhaps a bit severe, but there was good news as the team did not leak loads of goals and kept playing for the 60 minutes.

So the strong second half performance is the one to remember, and the score line of just one nil in that second period, is really encouraging against such strong opposition.
