Premier v Blarney Street Athletic on Friday 5th March 2016
Blarney Street Athletic 2 Carrigtwohill United 3.
Scorers –
Nathan Gumbo, Gary O’Riordan, Paul O’Mahony.

After weeks of stop start with games over the weather, we went to Mayfield Community school all weather pitch for league game v Blarney Street.  This was always going to be a very tough game as we had our keeper suspended and Martin Carroll stepped up and went in goal.  We started much the brighter and took a deserved lead when the quick thinking of Derek Delea sent Nathan Gumbo in on Goal and he made no mistake for 3 yards.

The early goal kinda set the tone for next 20 min with Carrig sitting back protecting the lead,  but Blarney are a very dangerous side and deserved to draw level through John Corcoran. 10 min later they took the lead direct from a free kick again through Corcoran.  A moment of sheer class from Garry O’Riordan at the re start, he spotted the keeper off his line and lobbed him from half way line.

Into the second half and the game went from end to end with the Carrig goalkeeper in great form catching every ball that was put into the box.  On 75 min Blarney reduced to 10 men and Carrig could sense this was there chance to get the winner.  Paul O’Mahony on as a sub after 60min was the difference.  His quality hold up play and link up with the midfield was a joy to watch and it was Paul who won it with a fantastic goal chipping the keeper with 4 min to go.  It was a valuable 3 points for us with the semi final on Sat next away to Pearse Celtic
