Hillington 0 Carrigtwohill United 6
Scorers – Joe Mhondiwa 2, Kalem Deady 2, Kevin O’Riordan, Maciek Bezcek.
Carrigtwohill Utd B had a comfortable win away to Hillington on Sunday Morning in a relegation 6 pointer. Before the game just 1 point seperated the 2 teams with Carrig just ahead in the table. Carrig were coming off a 5 nil hammering of Carrigaline the week before in the Corinthians Cup and again had a very impressive squad to choose from on the day so confidence was high.
The first 20 minutes was a scrappy affair with both teams trying to get a hold on the game, the pitch didn’t help and it was quite difficult to get the ball down and play good football. Carrig had some good early chances but eventually broke the deadlock after 23 minutes, Carrig veteran striker Joe Mhondiwa played through and he slotted a very composed finish into the right side of the goal. Minutes later Joe made it 2 nil, Kevin O’Riordan turned provider putting in a great cross from the left side, Joe took it down on his chest and again calmly slotted into the right side of the goal. Hillington had a great chance to bring a goal back during a goal mouth scramble and were unlucky not to have scored with the ball hitting the crossbar. 2 nil at HT.
Joe was replaced by Ollie Cooney at half time and he made an immediate impact with a great run down the right hand side, his shot was saved by the keeper but parried into the feet of Kevin O’Riordan who tapped it into to make it 3 nil. Carrig at this stage were rampant on the attack and Maciek Bezcek made it 4 with a finish cutting in from the left wing. Hillington were reduced to 10 soon after for a horrible kick on the very tricky David “Badge” Williams who had to go off injured. Hillington were at 6’s and 7’s at the back soon after and it was Constant Carrig pressure. MOTM Kalem Deady scored the last 2 goals, first a nice finish on the break and the last goal was a goal mouth scramble but he finished expertly into the roof of the net.
All in all a great day in the office and a valuable 3 points in the league.
