Carrigtwohill Under-18’s kicked off their season in fine form on a sunny afternoon in Cobh. An away trip to Springfield Ramblers was always going to be a tough match but it was the visitors who came away with a comprehensive win which was never really in doubt.

Springfield opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Carrigtwohill failed to cut out a low corner which was easily finished at the back post.

Rather than let this bother them, Carrigtwohill took the match by the scruff of the neck and scored from the kick-off. Some neat interplay by Kuba Hofft put Niall Harte through on goal and he finished cleverly to the left corner of the net.

Carrigtwohill were dominating now in midfield with Mubaraq, Kuba, Darragh and Calvin overpowering their hosts with neat passing and probing forward runs.

The pattern of the match continued and two goals from Calvin Fitzgerald and a hat-trick from Darragh Ymedji put the result of the match beyond doubt when Springfield managed to pull one back in the last ten minutes.

After conceding from the corner, the back four were solid for the rest of the match with Ronan and Henry in particular, having to deal with the long balls which were always a threat.

It was a superb performance from the lads which will need to be maintained over the coming weeks as tougher tests await
