Report:
On a lovely autumn morning we played our 2nd league game of the season at home to Avondale United. On a day where we were 2nd best to a far superior team in both football and fitness we went down on a 5 goal to nil scoreline.Under pressure from the first whistle with the away team moving the ball at pace cutting our defence open Fillip Gawbloski in goals make a couple of very brave saves before the inevitable goal came for Avondale.Missing 5 players through various injuries we struggled to get a foothold in the game and conceded a 2nd goal after a quarter of an hour.In fairness to the lads led by Fillip in goal and center half Mark Mc Carthy we finally managed to stem the tide and play some football ourselves and started to creates a few chances.Unfortunately we conceded a third goal just before half time.
The fourth goal was scored in the first couple of minutes of the second half. The lads to be fair never gave up and kept trying all the way to the end but on the day it just wasn’t enough against a superior team.
Our unbeaten league run stretching back to last December well and truly over but we’ll learn from this defeat and hopefully come back stronger.
The player of the game goes to goal keeper Fillip Gawbloski who despite the scoreline was outstanding in goal. His bravery in coming out to twart numerous attacks which helped to keep the scoreline down.Mark Mc Carthy captain on the day also stood up to be counted on a day where it was easy to go missing.
Thanks also to the three under 12 players who were called up late to make up the squad.
