The Under-13A team returned to competitive football today hosting Mallow Utd A for their first game of the season.
The lads were eager to get back playing and while understandably a little rusty they started very well. They got the ball on the ground and tried some lovely combinations to try and break down a solid Mallow backline.
Carrigtwohill created a few half chances early on which they couldn’t covert while Liam O’Connell and Charlie Cambridge were causing all sorts of problems down the left side of the pitch.
This was to be the pairing that combined again. Charlie collected a pass from Liam and played an inch perfect through ball for Adam McCarty to collect, race away from the defence and coolly finish. The boys were starting to dominate now with John O Connor, Elia Zreik and Divine Ayiyiiogie controlling the midfield and the excellent Ben McCarty and Frank Jabkiewiez marshalling the centre of defence.
After the break Mallow pushed for an equalizer playing some great through balls only for keeper Kane Mellis on his debut to cover everything that came his way. The boys showed great spirit with Peter Warren Perry and Liam Coady doing great work for the team to get control of the game back.
The killer blow for Mallow came 12 minutes into the second half when captain John O’Connor won the ball in midfield and raced down the right wing before cutting inside to unleash an excellent finish to make it 2-0.
After this the confidence grew with Mantas Zlioba and Dylan Lynch working hard up front and Martin Lehane causing all sorts of problems for the defence.
Carrigtwohill got a deserved third when Charlie latched onto a loose clearance and finished in style to cap a super performance. The boys pushed for more goals with keeper Ben Healy starting the play from goal with great distribution. The game ended up with a great 3-0 home win.
Overall a good start to the season, a great team performance with every player contributing but man of the match has to go to Charlie Cambridge, a goal and an assist but also super work for the team and great vision on the ball. Well done lads!!!
Player of the Match; Charlie Cambridge
