27th January at Ballyadam
Carrigtwohill – 1
Bandon – 6
On a crisp winters morning Carrigtwohill United welcomed unbeaten Bandon to Ballyadam for their latest league game. Carrigtwohill set out to frustrate the visitors early on and hit them on the break.
It almost worked to perfection after 2 mins when a Bandon attack was repelled and Phillip broke at pace only to be hacked down just outside the penalty box. From the resultant free, kick Mark was unlucky not to score when the goalie needed 2 chances to save.
Well on top for the first quarter Carrigtwohill pushed forward but unfortunately had no goal for their efforts. However, Bandon made them pay when they scored a sloppy goal after Fillip made a great save. Bandon started to control the tempo of the game now and scored two late goals to leave Carrigtwohill 3 nil down at half time.
Unfortunately, the hosts conceded after 2 minutes of the 2nd half to leave themselves an uphill task. The character in the team shone through at this stage and with Fillip in goal Ben at the back and captain Josh really standing up to be counted Carrigtwohill took control of the game. Josh played a great ball over the top and Phillip finished at the 2nd attempt to bring them back into the match. Try as hard as they could, they couldn’t score again and Bandon scored 2 late goals to run out convincing winners.
Player of match was centre back Ben Murphy who stood up under severe pressure winning tackles and encouraging his fellow teammates to keep going till the end. A true leader on the day when it was easier to go missing.
