Carrigtwohill United- 3
Leeside United – 4

Leeside United were the visitors to Ballyadam this weekend for an East Cork local derby of last season’s champions of the CSL Premier and CSL First Division.
The first few minutes set the tone as to how the game would be played, end to end with both sides fighting tooth and nail for every ball, every blade of grass.
Leeside United took the lead on the 5th minute.
It was now Carrigtwohill’s turn to attack and apply some pressure on Leeside United. Carrigtwohill were finding their groove in the game and after stringing a few passes together, a cross was whipped into the box which resulted in a Leeside United player handling the ball. Carrigtwohill were awarded a penalty. The keeper well saved the resulting penalty. The Carrigtwohill players regrouped and kept applying more pressure on Leeside United when the breakthrough finally came from a well-placed throw-in by Dominic Yuric, Luke McDonnell headed the ball forward, Rian Thornhill controlled the ball and took a shot, the keeper parried with Roan O’Keefe quickest to react and finish the ball into the back of the net.
Leeside United hit a purple patch and scored another two goals, 1-3.

This Carrigtwohill team are made of tuff stuff and were not going to lay down. Roan O’Keeffe grabbed his second goal of the day when he bravely slide in to make contact with ball in a 60/40 challenge not in his favour to bring it back to 2-3.
As this game ebbed and flowed between both teams, Leeside United struck again with another goal against the run of play to make it 2-4.
The introduction of Morgan Foley, Niall Barry and Rayhan Soumaila in the second half gave Carrigtwohill an impact straight away. The players had fine games and worked hard throughout.
One thing for sure we know about this Carrigtwohill team is that they will never give up and keep battling till the very end. Rian Thornhill scored Carrigtwohill’s third goal when he pounced on a loose ball in the box and expertly riffled the ball into the top corner of the net giving the keeper no chance to make it 3-4. Carrigtwohill with their never say die attitude went hunting for the equalizer in the final few minutes of the game and kept piling the pressure on Leeside United. Rian Thornhill had a rocket of a header fly and inch over the cross bar and Kyle Kidney had a snapshot that just went wide.
The lads showed heart and determination to come back from two goals down but unfortunately just ran out of time. The Carrig lads left nothing out on the field.
Leeside United hung on the take the win but know full well they were put to the pin of their collar in one hell of a game.

Best on the day were Noah Nsengiyumva, Rian Thornhill and Sean Og Madden but player of the match goes to Roan O’Keeffe.
Notable mention also to Cal Flavin who stepped up from the U15s to make an impressive Premier division debut with the U16s.
