Under-14

Lakewood A – 1

Carrigtwohill United – 6

Local Cup at Lakewood 11th Jan 2020

The Carrigtwohill Under-14’s made the trip to Ballincollig on a wet and very windy Saturday morning to play Lakewood A in the last 64 round of the local Cup. The excellent facilities available meant the game was able to go ahead on the all weather pitch despite the gale force wind and driving rain.

Carrigtwohill started the game on the front foot and forced the home side to play in their own half. A long ball from the back by Corey was latched onto by Mark McCarthy to finish past the on-rushing goalie. Well on top now the the lads kept up the pressure and created plenty of chances without converting them until Mark again was on hand to finish for a deserved 2 nil lead 20 minutes into the game.

The back four who had been well on top for the half, unfortunately got caught out before half time and conceded to leave the half time score 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

Turning to face an ever-increasing gale and heavy rain a big effort was asked of the lads and they delivered in style. The back four really stood tall and repelled all Lakewood attacks and set up numerous attacks for their forwards to avail off.

It was Mark again who broke down the left wing before finishing to the far corner for his hat trick. The goal knocked the fight out of the home team and Carrigtwohill finished the stronger with Cian, Evan and Mateusz all finding the net to give them a deserved 6-1 win.

A very good all-round team performance with hat trick hero Mark McCarthy and centre half Ben Murphy standing tall at opposite ends of the pitch. Ben shades the man of the award for his leadership at the back especially in the second half playing against the elements.
