League v Kinsale in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 28th February 2016
Carrigtwohill United 0 Kinsale 4

After the weather, we finally got back to playing matches after 14 weeks. We hosted league leaders Kinsale in a sunny Ballyadam and gave very good team performance.

Last time we played Kinsale they over ran us and won easily, today was different. We started very well and both teams played good football. There was plenty of chances, the best for us falling to Liam Moore but a last ditch sliding tackle by the Kinsale defender cleared the ball. Against the wind we held our own and were always a threat on the break. Kinsale had chances but some good goalkeeping from Carrig’s Cameron Kenefick meant the sides went into the break at nil all.

After the break it started even again, but Kinsale then took the lead after 6 mins. Their forward’s run down their left drew our defenders to the right and when he crossed there was a Kinsale forward free at the back post to fire home past a stranded Cameron. We continued to play but couldn’t break through the solid Kinsale defence. Just after 10  mins into the half Kinsale struck again. We defended an attack but cleared the ball into the centre where the Kinsale player has the time and skill to control the ball and shoot into the net to give them a 2-0 lead. As the game wore on we created some chances but didn’t take them. The closest was a shot from Pairas Fitzpatrick that hit the crossbar. As we pushed for the goal we deserved, we went to 2 at the back and added the extra man into midfield. We kept going but as we took the risks Kinsale eventually punished us and scored 2 more goals in the final 10 mins.

These last 2 goals put a bad look on the scoreline, but 0-4 did not do our play justice. With a bit more clever attacking we could have put the league leaders under more pressure.

Match day squad – Pairas Fitzpatrick, Liam Moore, Mark O’Connor, Eric O’Sullivan, Oisin Lynch, Ronan Browne, Darragh Ymedji, Cameron Kenefick, Joshua Ryan, Adam Rooney, George McCarthy.

Ballyseedy Home & Gardens Player of the Match : Cameron Kenefick.
