League v Inishvilla in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 29th October
Carrigtwohill United 3 Inishvilla 1
Scores:
Gary O’Riordan, Brendan Cronin, Conor Harte

On Sunday morning we had our first home league game which we knew was a must win to lay down a marker for the season. We started with both teams trying to hold onto possession and it was Carrig who had the first real chance of the game after some good work down the left between Paul Feehan and Robin Ward, who got a cross in to Brendan Cronin who just put the ball narrowly wide! Both teams were now finding their feet with Inishvilla holding onto the ball well and creating a few chances, and after 15minutes they were ahead after a quick free kick from the wrong position, with their striker looping a header over Brian Ahearne in goals,0-1. However Carrig were now starting to control the game with Ian Kenny and Julius Leke moving the ball well. Gary O’Riordan had a great chance to level it after a great ball from Oliver Cooney, only to be denied by a great save by the keeper, but from a second successive corner Carrig were level. A good delivery from Olly Cooney found Gary O’Riordan at the back post who nodded it home to level it! At the other end Brian was called into action with a great save down to his right to deny Inishvilla getting in again. Carrig had to defend a few corners with Shane Murphy marshalling his defence well from here Carrig broke with Paul Feehan finding Robin Ward in behind their defence only to be denied by the keeper again! Half time, with Carrig going into the break knowing that all three points were there for the taking.

The second half began with Carrig dominating and creating good chances only to be denied by two fine saves from their keeper. We had a few corners with Shane Murphy heading narrowly over one. Inishvilla were having no luck up the field with Daragh McCann and Nicholas Hartman along with Shane Murphy and Paul Feehan keeping them at bay. Finally we had our second goal and deserved lead. Agreat ball from Ian kenny to Gary O’Riordan who played it across to Brendan Cronin who duly swept it home. Inishvilla started to chase the game which left gaps at the back  for us to expose but we couldn’t find that crucial third goal. Inishvilla were then reduced to 10 men after a dangerous lunge resulted in a second yellow card. They started to throw everything at us but we stood firm with our substitutes, Shane Waters and Philip Dorgan doing well. With only a few minutes remaining we broke after defending their corner very well. Philip Dorgan found Conor Harte on the half way line who ran in for one of the easiest goals he will ever Score 3-1. A great result and team performance with our work on the training ground really starting to show.

A special mention to Nicholas Hartman who has helped us out greatly in the past few months with his composed displays! We wish him all the best from everyone at Carrigtwohill United.
