Under-16 CSL Premier Division
26th April 2024 at Ballyadam
Carrigtwohill United – 3
Lakewood Athletic – 3

Lakewood Athletic Under-16’s who were currently sitting third in the league table travelled to Ballyadam for this weekend’s league fixture.
Lakewood Athletic took an early lead in the game from some sloppy play from the Carrigtwohill midfield and backs who had numerous opportunities to clear their lines.
Lakewood Athletic scored another two goals capitalising from poor concentration levels and defending from Carrigtwohill.
Most teams would have thrown in the towel being 3 goals down, but this Carrigtwohill team spurred into life after conceding the third goal.
Luke McDonnell took a booming goal kick, the ball was headed on from midfield, Rian Thornhill lofted a long ball over the top to the hard-working livewire Kyle Kidney making a run who beat the defender to get a shot off first time of asking, the keeper parrying the shot only for Osas Aghedo to send the ball into the back of the net. (1-3)
Carrigtwohill started the second half with more urgency as the goal gave the team a bit of oxygen. Carrigtwohill second goal came from a set piece after Noah Eddins was fouled.
Sean Og Madden sent a dangerous lingering free kick into the box with Rian Thornhill never taking his eye off the ball beating the defender and heading the ball into the net giving the keeper no chance. The score was now 2-3 and the comeback was on.
Carrigtwohill with the bit between their teeth went hunting for the equalizer. Luke McDonnell lead by example and attacked a stray pass from Lakewood Athletic, he placed a well weighted pass to Rian Thornhill with the deftest of touches flicked a through ball to the Noah Nsengiyumva who at the first time of asking put in a pinpoint cross onto the head of the on running Roan O’Keeffe who headed the ball into the net. The comeback was completed 3-3 all.
Very hard to single out players in this performance as the team dug themselves out of the hole they got themselves into being 3 nil down after 30 minutes. A hard well-earned point.
Notable mention for Kane Mellis who played in goal today.
