Carrigtwohill United – 4

Douglas Hall A – 3

Carrig welcomed 2nd place Douglas to ballyadam on Tuesday evening with the home side needing a victory to get their promotion hopes back on track after a disappointing defeat to Leeside in their last game.
Carrig were slow to get a grip on the game in the early stages and after 15min the Douglas forward found some space in the box he beat 2 of our defenders and somehow tapped the ball into the net. This seemed to wake up the home side and began to take control of the game with Sean Guiney now running at the defence, so in the 22nd min on one of he’s runs he delivered a superb cross for Gary Horgan to head home , one all now and Carrig were playing some lovely football. In the last min of the 1st half Douglas won a penalty which the striker converted.2-1 down HT

The 2nd half was very entertaining with both teams attacking at every opportunity. When a Sean Barry corner landed in the 6 yard box, Jacob was on hand to neatly finish it to the bottom corner. 2 all now and Carrig went looking for a 3rd when the quick thinking Sean Guiney took a quick free to play to his brother Dan whose shot just went over the bar.

Soon after Carrig won a throw in so when a Callum O’Byrne long throw was flicked on by Dan into the box the Douglas keeper couldn’t keep hold of it and the ball landed to the feet of Cathal Doyle who managed to slot it home.
3-2 up going into the closing 10min and Douglas started to cause problems for Carrig and when the away number 10 got through on goal Cal Flavin made a great save when it looked certain he’d score. But from the resulting corner Douglas got the equaliser when Carrig couldn’t clear there lines and the away side slotted into the net.
3 all now and time nearly up when Carrig won a free on the half way line so up stepped Cillian McCann who hit a powerful kick which somehow managed to deceive the keeper and finish in the net.

Soon after the full time whistle blew to the relief of Carrig and a 4-3 victory that also keeps this team in the running for the league title.
