Carrigtwohill United 3 Richmond 2 aet
Scorers – Darragh McCann, Billy Manning, Stephen Folasade.
Carrig U18’s entertained Richmond in the second round of the cup on Saturday and secured a 3-2 win after extra time. Carrig were by far the better team and had the better of the early exchanges but went a goal down after 10 minutes . Richmond’s striker got on the end of a clearance from his defence and lobbed Carrig’s keeper to put the visitors ahead. Carrig continued to dominate the game and were rewarded when Darragh McCann scored from a free on the edge of the box to make it 1-1 at the break.
The second half was very frustrating with Carrig doing all the attacking but unable to score. The visitors were solid in defence but Carrig were guilty of some poor finishing wasting a lot of good chances. While Richmond did get forward they never looked like scoring in the second half and it finished 1-1 at full time.
Extra time kicked off and just like the first half Carrig were on top and again went a goal down after just 3 minutes. Carrig didn’t panic and continued to push forward in search of an equaliser but it finished 1-2 to Richmond at the break.
Carrig kicked off and camped in Richmond’s half. They played some great football down the wings and stretched the visitors defence. Stephen Folasade broke down the wing and beat the keeper with a shot from a tight angle but his shot was handled on the line resulting in a penalty and a sending off. Billy Manning scored the penalty to make it 2-2. With 4 minutes remaining Folasade scored a good goal with a shot low to the corner of the net from the edge of the box 3-2 to Carrig. The lads showed great character to come through this tie even though they leaked 2 goals against the run of play.
