Carrig travelled to Mayfield on Saturday afternoon for their second league game of the season. Carrig had the benefit of a very strong wind in the first half and the better of the early chances too but they failed to take advantage of all their good work until the 30th minute. A cross into the box was handled by one the Mayfield defenders and Billy Manning scored the resulting penalty. Mayfield had a few chances before the break but failed to score and the half finished 1-0 to the visitors at the break.
Against the wind in the second half Carrig played some great football and had the home side under pressure for long spells. Carrig dominated the midfield and created a few good chances with O’Leary and Folasade both unlucky not to score. Carrig secured the win with 15 minutes remaining. Mayfield’s keepers kick out was headed back into the path of Philip Dorgan by Kevin Coady and Dorgan rounded his marker to score Carrig’s second goal. This was a deserved win for Carrig and leaves them with 4 points from two games.
