Carrig 17s welcomed Division 1 rivals Fermoy to Ballyadam on Sunday morning in the first round of the Ted Healy Cup. The least said about the first half the better, Carrig were dominated for 45 minutes, the visitors scored twice from set pieces. The one shining light from the first half was a world class save from Alan Warren mid way through the first half.

The mindset changed for Carrig after half time and after a number of good chances they finally got their reward. Good work down the right from Tristan and Robin ended in a low cross which David Ryan expertly flicked into the back of the net. Fermoy to their credit then weathered the storm a bit. Alan Warren again keeping them at bay. Mark Daly and Evan Rowlands made a significant impact when coming off the bench and just as more changes were coming, Carrig equalised. Tristan whipping in a corner that ended up in the back of the net. 5 minutes later Mark Daly got the ball outside the Fermoy box, tested the keeper who wasnt up to it and Carrig lead 3-2, cracking comeback. To their credit Fermoy didn’t stop and another long ball from them, hit Hugh O’Neill on the shoulder and the ref gave a penalty. 3-3. Alan made another good save to keep the game at 3-3 and near the end, another corner from Tristan was cleared to David Ryan, positioned exactly where he should be at the edge of the box, dribbled in and smashed the ball into the back of the net. 4-3 game over. Carrig continue into the second round but more importantly showed heart and determination that bodes well for the league run in.
