League v Watergrasshill United in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 1st February 2015
Carrigtwohill United 3 Watergrasshill United 1
Scorers: David Grimes 2, Billy Manning .
Carrigtwohill beat Watergrasshill 3 – 1 to make it 5 wins from 5 in the league on Sunday morning at Ballyadam. Carrig had the visitors under pressure from the start of the match and deserved their lead when David Grimes scored with a header after 25 minutes from John Hydes corner. Carrig continued to dominate the game and it took a great save from the visitors keeper to stop a diving header from Darragh McCann. John Hyde and Shane Walters were on top in the middle of the field with Billy Manning and Brendan Twomey terrorising the Hill’s defence every time they got the ball on the wings. Carrig were 2 up when Grimes scored his second goal of the game at the back post after another corner from Hyde. Carrig had the visitors on the rack now and won a free on the edge of the box after a great exchange between Manning and Twomey , John Hyde delivered a great ball into the box for Manning to score and make it 3 – 0 to the home side at the break.
Carrig were quick out of the blocks in the second half and Twomey was denied by the visitors keeper from the kickoff. Carrig controlled the second half and played some great football and could have had 3 more goals but the visitors keeper was having a great game and kept his side in the match. Against the run of play Watergrasshill scored to make it 3 – 1 with 20 minutes to play . The goal gave the visitors a new lease of life and they had a 5 minute spell where they tested Carrig’s defence but Carrig showed their experience and killed the game with some great possession football. This was a great performance against a big physical Watergrasshill side.
Ballyseedy Home & Gardens Man of the Match; John Hyde.
