Under-16 National Cup Last 16 Cork Area
26th November 2023 at Ballyadam

Carrigtwohill United- 0
Midleton – 2

Carrigtwohill United Under-16’s bowed out of the National Cup at the Last 16 stage.
Midleton Under-16’s were the visitors to Ballyadam this weekend for the third time of asking for this game to be played.

Carrigtwohill started the brightest and were on top for the majority of the first half with their tactics working with Midleton being pinned into their own half of the pitch and unable to find each other to string some passes together.
Carrigtwohill almost took the lead when Rian Thornhill used some trickery from his skill set to get away from the Midleton defence and get a shot off which went wide of the last hand post.
Dominic Yuric also tried his luck with a pot shot from outside the box which just went wide of the goal. Carrigtwohill had another chance to take the lead when Rian Thornhill set up Osas who’s shot rebounded off a Midleton defender in the 6 yard box. Unfortunately, Carrigtwohill couldn’t convert their dominance on the pitch to the scoreboard so the game finished nil all at half time.
Midleton started the second half better and finally broke the deadlock on the 63minute and doubled their lead on the 75 minute, the second goal taking a deflection to beat the keeper.

Rian Thornhill had another shot was blocked by a sea of Black and White jerseys in the box as Midleton dropped their players back to protect their two-goal lead. Sean Og Madden came close to getting a goal back when his well taken free kick approx. 35 yards looked like it was destined for the top left-hand corner of the net only for a fingertip save by the Midleton Keeper.
Carrigtwohill will regroup and get back to training ground this week.

Best on the day were Rian Thornhill, Luke McDonnell and Roan O’Keeffe.
Notable mention for Mattie Hodnett who stepped up from the U15s to make his Premier division debut with the U16s.
