Under-16 CSL Div 3 at Ballyadam

Carrigtwohill United – 1

Leeside – 1

On a beautiful summer Friday evening and on a perfectly prepared senior pitch in Ballyadam Park, Carrigtwohill Under-16’s welcomed Leeside for their 2nd last league game of the season.

A good start from the away team led to an early lead just 3 minutes into the game when a shot from from outside the box gave Ethan in goal no chance.

Despite the setback, the home side settled and won a free kick 30 yards out which Leroy put just wide.

An open, helter skelter local Derby start to the match then saw a red card shown to a Leeside striker for his 2nd yellow card 6 minutes into the game.

The match ebbed and flowed with the best Carrigtwohill chance falling to Seba who broke through one on one with the Leeside goalie only for the goalie to make a good save.

There was other half chances before half time at both ends but both defences were on top with centre half pairing of Robbie and Jayden comfortably repelling all Leeside attacks.

Half time 1 nil to the opposition.

The 2nd half started with midfield of Alex, Colm, Leroy and Charlie getting on top and driving the team forward with the hard working Ryan and Rollie creating goal chances that on another day would have converted but tonight the ball just wouldn’t fall right.

Because of injuries and delays the referee Pat Ryan added 8 minutes injury time and the never say die attitude of this squad shone through when one last attack from Carrigtwohill down the right wing the ball was crossed into the box where midfielder Colm Harte was on hand to volley a deflected effort past the Leeside goalie for a deserved equaliser.

The celebrations on the home sideline will long live in the memory with all the players from the younger schoolboy teams running onto pitch to celebrate with their heroes.

A big thank you to all the supporters who turned out to make it a wonderful atmosphere.

Player of the match goes jointly to right back Paul Browne who repelled the Leeside threat down his wing and midfielder Colm Harte who controlled the crowded midfield area and despite suffering from fatigue was on hand in the 88th minute to score the equaliser which keeps Carrigtwohill in 3rd place in the league.
