Under-16 CSL Div 3 at Abbeyview, Buttevant

Buttevant – 1

Carrigtwohill United – 0

Carrigtwohill Under-16’s made the long early morning trip to north Cork for their third league game of the season in Buttevant.

After a good win away in their last game against Wilton, confidence was high of getting a result in this game. It was a lovely morning for a game of football albeit on a softened pitch and it was the carrig lads who were playing the better football with Buttevant happy to try long range shots from outside the box.

It was an even game until the 23rd minute when a Buttevant midfielder tried his luck with another long range effort. This time it skidded off the surface causing Fillip to fumble the ball with the opposition striker quickest to react to poke home past the unlucky goalie.

The lads never let their heads drop and continued to play the ball through the lines with the back 4 limiting the opposition to long range efforts which Filiip dealt with comfortably.

Half time arrived with the score line not reflecting the Carrigtwohill effort and to make matters worse left back Cathal had to go off with a hand injury which unfortunately will side-line him for a few weeks.

The second half was the same as the first with Carrigtwohill on top on midfield with Paul, Evan and Ben driving the team forward trying to get a deserved equaliser. Paul and Mateusz were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions and a free kick from Kian caused mayhem in Buttevant defence but the ball just wouldn’t fall to a carrig player.

Unfortunately the referee blew the final whistle but the 15 lads who all played their part can be proud of their effort which on another day would have yielded a win.

Player of the match was tenacious midfielder Paul Browne who harried and tackled bigger fellas in midfield and drove the team forward at every opportunity an also unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions
