Carrigtwohill United – 4

Avondale Utd B – 3

The boys travelled to Avondale on a bright Sunday morning for a really competitive local Cup tie.

The game started quickly with both sides testing each other out. Avondale probably had the upper hand with both Liam o Connell and Ben McCarty being kept busy by Avondales front players. The game started to swing in our direction with Charlie and Liam Coady working hard on the wings and Martin linking up well with them. On 14mins Adam rifled the ball into the top corner from 20yrds to give us the lead. This definitely settled the lads, Elijah and Darragh were solid at the back and we were pushing forward more frequently. Adam grabbed his second on 25 mins and Divine put us 3-0 up after a super run and neat finish five minutes later. The momentum changed when Avondale converted a penalty just before halftime to make it 3-1 at the break.

Avondale started the second half on the front foot and scored two goals in 3 mins to turn the tie on its head, 3-3 and all to play for. With the game in the balance both sides were pushing for the win, a real tense cup tie, tough tackles, chances created and missed with neither side giving an inch. The game looked destined for extra time only for Zach Collins to deliver a super ball into the box which landed at the feet of Ben Healy who finished superbly to spark wild celebrations from the boys. Avondale weren’t done yet and threw everything at the lads and would have levelled only for a brilliant last ditch challenge from Jack Flanagan followed by a superb save from Kane in goal.

All the players gave 100% today and deserved to go into the last 16 of the cup. Adam was excellent with his two goals, Ben Healy the hero with the last minute winner but player of the match goes to Elijah for a superb performance at CB. Well done lads.
