Neil Welch Cup v Glenvale in Ballea Park on Saturday 2nd April 2016
Carrigaline Hiberians 3 Carrigtwohill United 2
Scorers – Conor Lee, Ahmad Saledipe.
Carrig bowed out of the Neil Welch Cup at the quater Final stage after going down 3-2 to Carrigaline. Carrig started very well and were dominating possession and territory, but on Carrigalines first attack on the break they opened the scoring too easily for Carrigs liking. Then Carrigs talisman Zack Casagranda went off injured with a broken foot which saw Carrig visibly shaken as heads dropped, to make things worse Carrigaline scored their second after 12 minutes and already it looked game over.
But credit to the lads they fought to get back into it but the game became a midfield battle with no team really taking the initiative. Carrig got a lucky goal from Conor Lee to lift the lads 10mins before the break and Carrig looked threatening during the remainder of the half.
The second half played very similar to the first with both defences dealing well with what came at them, Carrig made numerous changes to try and find a spark that would get the equaliser, and with 15 minutes remaining Ahmad Saledipe scored from a great through ball by Ethan Daly.
The game went to extra time where 5mins in Carrigaline struck the killer blow after Carrig failed to defend a corner. Carrig had a great chance to bring the game to penalties but Jack O’Mahony missed a sitter from 1 yard as he failed to connect to the ball from Jack Horgans corner. That was Carrigs last chance in this seasons cup.
Player of the Match – Ethan Daly Harkin.
