Carrigtwohill United – 2
Strand United – 0

We travelled to Strand United for the third round of our league campaign with a place on top of the league up for grabs.
Alex Doyle and Killian O Halloran made their debuts today and we were so proud of how they handled it.
Both teams took a while to settle on a wet heavy pitch. Strand tried a few long balls over our defence early on but Max Ricken’s starting positions snuffed out any chances they tried to create. Paul Kelleher got on the ball at number 10 early in the game and tried to get us going. Finally after 20 minutes the chances started to come with Eoin Lombard and Jack Connelly hitting the upright and Kevin Isaac converting a rebound only to be flagged offside. Paul O Neill and Ryan Matthew were unlucky with further chances so we went in at halftime scoreless.
We switched Callan to midfield to give us stability and started the second half with quicker tempo and quality. Alex, Jamie and Zac provided leadership at the back led by Max Ricken. Luke and Kevin started to dominate the middle with Eoghan Rall and Ryan displaying incredible energy and drive running end line to end line. Eoin Lombard, Paul O Neill, Jack and Paul Kelleher linked well at different times up front. Finally the goal came with some combination play in the middle sending Paul O Neill through who calmly finished high in to the net. A second followed soon after with great work on the left saw a ball go across the box for Ryan Matthew to slot him a deserved goal. Killian played the last 10 minutes on the left shoring up our defence further but also found himself crossing for Jack to flick a volley just over.
We couldn’t be happier with the character of all the lads and they deserved their 3 points today.
