Under-14 CSL Div 4 at Shanbally

Carrigaline A – 0

Carrigtwohill United – 1

Carrigtwohill travelled away to Carrigaline for their first ever encounter and it was uncertainty that was our main concern. It was a windy and sunny afternoon with a 4pm kick off.

They chose to play with the wind which was also the way the sloped pitch was going, so getting a good start and taking any chances was their main aim for the first half.

Both teams were well matched from the start, Carrigtwohill started on the front foot but the slope went against their type of play as the long through balls were running out of space on the smaller pitch.

The home team had a few clear chances within first 20 minutes but the Carrigtwohill keeper did really well.

Carrigtwohill eventually got the through ball right and their striker scored after 25 minutes from close range.

The remainder of first half was unsettled with neither side on top.

During the break the visitors needed to change their tactics against the wind and uphill. Carrigtwohill needed to keep the ball on the deck and start using the wings That they did and they had another one or two chances, but the home side keeper did well to keep them at bay.

With time running out for Carrigaline and pressure mounting, keeper and back 4 with the sun in their eyes, dug deep and managed to keep them from equalising.

The game ended with Carrigtwohill taking the 3 points. It was a scrappy game from both sides but fortune favours the brave.

Well done to the team and coaches on the day
