Under-14 CSL Div 1 at Ballyadam
Carrigtwohill United – 4
Mayfield United – 1
Carrigtwohill United put in a good solid performance to claim all three points at home to Mayfield this Sunday lunchtime. It was the visitors that took the lead after 7 mins following some loose play in the Carrigtwohill defence.
Once the home side settled down to the task at hand there was only going to be one winner as they possessed more quality in all areas of the pitch.
Morgan Foley started the comeback on 18 mins after a throw from Osas Aghedo worked an opening on the left, Cillian Rooney fed Rian Thornhill who in turn cut the ball back from the end line and it was Foley arriving at the near post for the equaliser. An Aghedo throw would again pay dividends on the half hour mark this time Thornhill slipping in Rooney to open his account for the season with a well placed shot.
Carrigtwohill continued to dominate the midfield after the break but Mayfield held a good defensive line and the blues forwards found it difficult to beat the offside trap but when Thornhill picked up the ball 25 yards out there was only one thing on his mind as he let fly to score a screamer into the far right corner.
Four minutes later skipper Roan O’Keeffe got on the score sheet for the first time this season when he curled a beauty past the Mayfield keeper to put the tie well and truly beyond the visitors. The more direct approach of Mayfield rarely troubled the Carrigtwohill rearguard as Cathal Seymour and Jarlath Cullimore won the aerial battles and Adam Lee had a relatively quiet afternoon in goal.
An excellent performance all round. Best for Carrigtwohill were Seymour, Cullimore and O’Keeffe. Man of the match goes to Thornhill with 3 assists and the goal of the game.
