Under-14 CSL Div1 at Mayfield Park

Mayfield United – 0

Carrigtwohill United – 2

Carrigtwohill United played their final league fixture away to Mayfield on a damp Bank Holiday Sunday morning. In a game the visitors dominated from start to finish the 2-0 scoreline flattered the home side as Carrigtwohill failed to convert the chances their attacking football created.

Morgan Foley and Osas Aghedo have formed an unlikely partnership in centre midfield of late and both were to the fore again today breaking up play and distributing well.

The attack led by Rian Thornhill and supported by Sean Og Madden, Roan O’Keeffe and Noah Eddins were a constant threat and after prolonged pressure an O’Keeffe corner was nodded home by Madden to open the scoring on 28 minutes.

Two minutes later the same players combined this time Maddens cross found Eddins on the edge of the box and the number 7 volleyed narrowly wide, 1-0 at the break.

The second half saw Carrigtwohill continue to play the better football and 5 minutes in Eddins again tried a volley after flicking the ball over the defender’s head, the keeper remained rooted to the spot as the ball flew just the wrong side of the post.

On the left Evan, Sean Og and Roan were linking up well and getting in behind the Mayfield defence but just lacked the finish. The second goal did eventually come just after the hour mark when Cathal Seymour (on up front) ran through and powered his shot past the Mayfield keeper.

This was Cathals first goal for Carrigtwohill and evidently the 13th squad member that has scored this season! A terrific all round team performance and a great finish to the league campaign. We can now only sit and wait to see if Rockmount can get the point they need to pip us to promotion.

Best for Carrigtwohill were Evan O’Regan O’Connor, Jarlath Cullimore and Noah Eddins.

Man of the match goes to Osas Aghedo for a brilliant display in midfield.
