Under-13G  Blitz – Sunday 29th May 2022

Host: Churchvilla

Firstly,  a huge thanks to the girls who gave up their Sunday morning lie in to play the blitz.   A thank you  also to the parents for the goodies and treats that were brought, bought and made especially for today.

Carrigtwohill fielded two 7 a side teams.   We had 14 players.

Team 1 –  Emily,  Brooke (C), Ellen, Majka, Saoirse, Megan K & Alex.

Team 2 – Megan W, Katelyn, Rebecca,  Karla, Niamh, Aoife and Carragh.

Team 2 – kicked off at 10am with an 8 minutes a side game against CorkBeg.   An excellent goal 7 minutes into the first half by Niamh Seymour took Carrigtwohill into the lead.   It was Niamh’s first goal of the season.  Well done Niamh.  Final Score: Carrigtwohill (1) v CorkBeg (0).

For the second game of the morning.  both Carrigtwohill Teams played side by side (two pitches were in use). Team 2 played Churchvilla.    We faced a strong opposing team,  girls played well and communicated excellently with each other,  there were plenty of passes and some nice football played,  however attempts at goal proved unsuccessful and we lost to Churchvilla.   Final score was Carrigtwohill (0) v Churchvilla (4)

Team 2 Results

Played 2, Won 1, Lost 1 – Points 3.

Team 2 were runners up in their group.

Team 1 faced Churchvilla in our first match of the day and we were expertly led by Captain Brooke. Despite the heat the girls played their absolute best and a goal from Alex was to be the deciding factor in the match. This was Alex’s first goal in a Carrig jersey and she really deserved it after such an excellent performance. Final score: Carrigtwohill (1) v Churchvilla (0).

In our second match today we faced Corkbeg and Alex added to her score with two more expertly struck goals. Majka played tirelessly and dominated midfield. Megan K was unfortunate not to capitalise on a couple of chances. Final score: Carrigtwohill (2) v Corkbeg (0).

Played 2, Won 2, Lost 0 – points 6.

Carrigtwohill 1 topped their group.

The semi finals resulted in both Carrigtwohill teams playing off against each other.   The players from this group would progress to todays final.   This was probably the hardest game of the day for both the girls and coaches.   But the girls played brilliantly.   Another goal (2) from Alex took Carrigtwohill 1 to the finals.    Alex was playing out if her usual position today, but there was no stopping her.    Final Score: Carrigtwohill 1 (2) v Carrigtwohill 2 (1)

Carrigtwohill then played Churchvilla in the final game of the day.    The two Carrigtwohill teams joined for the final game (9

a side) and considering the girls had been playing since 10am and in the midday heat their enthusiasm never wavered.  Goals were scored by Alex and Karla which saw Carrigtwohill win.    It was perfect ending to a perfect day.

Final Score Carrigtwohill (2) v Churchvilla (0).

A huge thanks to Churchvilla for hosting today.  To the girls from Corkbeg and Churchvilla for the games today.  To Fred (Churchvilla) Brian (Corkbeg) and Pearse (Carrigtwohill United) who were the referees on the day.

Looking forward to next season.
