The Carrigtwohill team have been looking forward to the excitement of Cup football for quite some time. In fact, the last Cup game this squad played at Ballyadam last year, resulted in a defeat on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw.
With a few team changes from previous league outings, Carrigtwohill started brightly pushing the St. Mary’s defence back with an opening goal from Darragh Hoare coming within the first quarter. To their credit, St. Mary’s fought back and had Carrigtwohill on the back foot for the remainder of the first half. Cian Olden, marshalling the back line had several important interventions but the pressure eventually told with St. Mary’s grabbing two goals.
The second half was a different matter, with Carrigtwohill taking the game to St. Marys and putting in an excellent performance all-round. Goals from Adbul Rahim and two more from Darragh Hoare (one made by a fabulous run from David Joesph in his first start) was a reward for the great second half display by this team.
