Under-13 Local Cup At Mallow

Mallow United – 0

Carrigtwohill United – 1

🏆ALL ROADS LEAD TO TURNERS CROSS 🏆

Carrigtwohill United Under-13’s booked their place in the final of the CSL Local Cup and a day out at Turners Cross next Thursday with a gripping 1-0 away win in Mallow last Saturday morning.

The squad travelled to the North Cork town well prepared and in buoyant mood having already overcome premier division opposition Blarney United in the quarterfinal last month.

It was the away side that settled quicker, contesting every ball and using possession intelligently. The breakthrough and deciding goal came just on the stroke of halftime when midfielder Roan O’Keeffe drove through the left hand side of the Mallow penalty area, O’Keeffe, Kyle Kidney, and Cillian Rooney all had touches in the box before Rian Thornhill smartly dispatched the ball into the net from close range.

The second half proved a tense affair with the home side throwing everything at Carrigtwohill but the boys stood firm with some sterling displays in defence especially from goalkeeper and captain Adam Lee and left back Sean Og Madden. Tom Walsh must have covered every blade of grass on the pitch as he popped up everywhere with telling tackles and interceptions.

Carrigtwohill continued to soak up pressure and played on the counter in the later stages and had one or two opportunities to extend their lead with some great hold up play and running from Rooney.

As the final whistle sounded cheers of joy rang around the academy pitch in Mallow as the Carrigtwohill boys celebrated. Well done to all involved.
