League v Macroom in Town Park on Saturday 7th February 2015
Macroom 6 Carrigtwohill United 0
After the excitement of the recent cup match, it was back to league action away to Macroom. This was a difficult away tie to the current table toppers, the previous league outing being 6 weeks beforehand. The pitch was in very good condition considering the time of year and the game started in a very competitive fashion. The first half ebbed and flowed between both teams. Ben Naughton, playing in goals pulled off some fine saves, and Sean deBurca, returning after injury was directing the defence in superb fashion. Carrigtwohill fashioned some very good chances of their own, with Robert Adam, putting in an inspiring first half performance, directing attacks from just behind the main striker. The best chance of the half came to Abdul Rahim, who saw his powerful shot blocked by the Macroom keepers legs. Just before half time, Carrigtwohill conceded from a corner when the Macroom striker managed get to the cross first.
Just after the resumption of play, Macroom dealt the killer blow when they scored twice in the first 7 minutes. This was a harsh reflection of the game at this point but in trying to chase the game, our backs were left with too much to do too often. The game ebbed and flowed with Carrigtwohill making chances but unable to convert into scores and some good performances, especially by Shane Byrne on his debut, always gave hope that a way could be found back into the game.
As the game approached the end, the effort put in by the players showed, and Macroom were able to add to their tally so finish with a once-sided score line – which was certainly not the case of the game itself.
