Under-13 National Cup Division 1
Sat, 25 Nov 23 at Coffee’s field
Carrigtwohill United – 7
Greenwood – 1
In the Round of 32 in the National Trophy we played Greenwood in what was an entertaining game.
We had a few absentees as the squad was hit with sickness all week but every credit to the lads who played today.
Carrig started well passing the ball around on what was a heavy pitch at the back and into midfield, Aaron Sheehan took a touch and released Scott Power down the line who squared it to Ryan Moore who just shot wide, a very lively start by the lad’s.
After a scrappy piece of play on the wing in our defence the ball went out for a corner to the opposition, a quick corner left our defence flat footed and a shot from the edge of the box went into the top corner, 1-0 to the opposition.
Carrigtwohill were level within 2 mins when a nice move on the left saw Evan Tovey release Matty who hit the net from just inside the box 1 – 1.
We were 2-1 up a minute later when Matty received a ball from Sam Collins who turned on a six pence and rifled the ball into the far corner of the net, no chance for the keeper.
After a quick counter attack from the opposition broke down, Carrig flew up the pitch and got a corner off the goalkeeper who made a great save from a Christopher O Reilly shot.
From the inswinging corner from Sam, Aaron was at the end of it and headed the ball into the net 3-1. HT
We started the 2nd half possessed and bombarded the opposition goal with shots from Ryan Moore, Christopher, Sam and Matty but the opposition keeper kept us at bay, but not for long, a great individual run by Christopher from the half way line, split the 2 centre backs and finished brilliantly past the keeper 4 – 1.
It was 5 soon after when a scrappy passage of play in the box and the ball fell to Filip klimpka who tapped into the net.
As the half wore on both teams started to get a little leggy and Matty took full advantage to round 2 defender’s and get the Hattrick.
Ryan Moore capped off an excellent game with the last of the game to make it 7 to reward him for all his running.
In what was a great performance from all involved a special mention to Christopher o Reilly, Matty korona and Evan Tovey who were outstanding.
Onto the last 16 they go well done lads
