League v College Corinthians A in Castletreasure on Saturday 21st February 2015
College Corinthians A 2 Carrigtwohill United 0
This game marked the start of the second half of the season as our trip to College Corinthians was our first return leg. The weather was perfect, and we were given a nice surprise as we left the dressing room to find we were playing on their first pitch – what a treat to play on such a superb surface.
Our defence was again reworked for this match, with Calvin Fitzgerald and Ronan Ymedi coming on board to fill both corners. With Sean de Burca, our general at the back, marshalling the defence, we looked comfortable for the most part as both teams probed looking for openings. Alex Canty, playing up front had good possession but clear-cut chances were hard to come by. The first half finished without a score and at this point, the game was there for either team.
Within a few minutes of the restart, Corinthians made the breakthrough as some good work on the right wing was rewarded when a loose ball fell to an unmarked player in the box. However, this was a signal for Carrigtwohill to up their game. Alex, now on the wing, was linking up well with the midfield and we created at least 3 clear cut chances, which we were unable to convert into scores. Although a second goal was conceded while we were chasing an equaliser, the benefit of the strong bench was evident towards the end of the game. Carrigtwohill continued to press Corinthians and the second half subs were to the fore right to the end of the game, with Toby Kmicek coming very close in the final minutes.
