Under-13 CSL Div2 at Ballyadam

Carrigtwohill United – 5

Castleview – 3

Carrigtwohill secured another 3 points in a tense home fixture to Castleview which produced an eight goal thriller. The home team started well and began to pile on the pressure with some early attempts from Cathal Doyle and Eoin Garvey. Hugh Crowley was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet first when his powerful low drive struck the base of the far right post.

Castleview had their chances aswell and would have been in front first if it weren’t for a fine save from Cal Flavin who managed to deflect a powerful shot onto the goal post. There were some crucial clearances by Cillian McCann and Dan Guiney to keep the score sheet clear for Carrigtwohill. The 2 wingbacks of Sean Barry and Conor Nolan were the launch pads for many attacks. Eoin Garvey who was playing out on the right wing was full of running and was causing all sorts of trouble for the opposition. He eventually managed to break the deadlock with a mazey run and drilled the ball past the Castleview Keeper to put Carrig 1-0 up at half time.

In the second half, Sophia Redmond who was also having a great game soon made it 2-0 when she collected the ball from a Hugh Crowley pass and left the goalie no chance with a powerfully struck left footed shot. She then turned provider with an immaculate pass which split the defence open for Cathal Doyle to run onto and cooly put away.

At 3-0 up it looked like Carrigtwohill were going to run away with it but to Castleviews credit they pulled back 2 goals to get themselves right back in the match. Matti Hodnett and Pol O’Connor commanded the center of the park and helped the momentum swing back in Carrigtwohill’s direction.

Hugh Crowley scored a powerfully struck shot into the top corner of the net only for Castleview to score again to bring the score to 4-3. The introduction of Ross Dorney, Rob Cotter, Rory Nolan and Sean Guiney was crucial in giving Carrigtwohill the edge as the match drew to a conclusion. Pol O’Connor put the result beyond all doubt with a cracking shot to make the 5-3 at the end.
