Under-12

Wilton United – 1

Carrigtwohill United – 2

22nd Sept 2019 at Pat Bowdren Park

Carrigtwohill United Under-12’s travelled to Pat Bowdren Park early Sunday morning to take on Wilton United with both sides looking to pick up points to help them move up the table. Carrigtwohill had all 16 of their squad available which gave the management team a headache concerning selection.

The game itself started very lively with the away team finding a bit of freedom up the left flank where Jarlath and Rian were combining well. The home defence were playing a very high line and living dangerously at times as Carrigtwohill made telling runs in behind them. The breakthrough came after 12 minutes when captain Ronan McCarthy floated a free kick over the Wilton defence and the home keeper misjudged the flight of the ball to gift Cillian Rooney the opener. Although Carrigtwohill would continue to dominate they would go in at the break with just a single goal separating the sides.

The 2nd half would follow a similar pattern with the away side making all the running but not taking their chances and against the run of play in the 55th minute Wilton scored an equaliser. A double save from Adam Lee and a goal line clearance from Sean Og wouldn’t be enough as Wilton bundled the ball home to draw level. Just as you thought the points would be shared came the move of the game, Roan and Evan exchanged passes in the centre and found Cillian in space who swept the ball past the Wilton keeper and into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

A well deserved victory and 3 points for Carrigtwohill who had Ronan and Cillian share man of the match.

Well done to all involved.
