Under-12

Carrigtwohill United – 2

Wilton United – 0

5th Jan 2020 at Ballyadam Park

The Christmas break, and with just one training session in the New Year to run off the ‘festive fare’ Carrigtwohill United Under-12’s resumed their league campaign at home to Wilton United on Sunday morning.

The enthusiasm was evident as an almost complete squad of 15 players were on show at Ballyadam Park determined to keep their good run going led by captain Noah Eddins. The home team started well and went ahead in the 9th minute when Tom and Rian combined – Rian with some super skills and a telling cross for Cillian to finish from close range. Carrigtwohill created numerous chances going forward with Tom being the creator on the right side of midfield but failed to capitalise and went in at half time 1 up.

The second half followed a similar pattern and Carrigtwohill should have doubled their lead early on with Rian having the best opportunity. At 1-0 Wilton were always in the game and Carrigtwohill had to be careful not to squander all their hard work but the introduction of fresh legs ensured this would not be the case showing the importance of all players in this highly competitive squad.

With 5 minutes remaining Kyle Kidney got a well-deserved goal after picking up a loose ball in midfield and racing clear of the pursuing defenders. His finish was ‘ice cool’ sliding the ball beyond the keeper and into the bottom corner to secure a home win.

Anyone who had the pleasure of witnessing this fantastic game of football will have their own thoughts on man of the match and there were many worthy candidates from Adam Lee in goal determined to keep a clean sheet, Roan O’Keeffe and Tom Walsh who ran the midfield until their withdrawal on 50 minutes and the interchangeable front three of Cillian Rooney, Rian Thornhill and Kyle Kidney who looked a threat all day long. But Sean Og Madden just shades it for his immense display in defence especially for a period in the second half when his team needed him most! Terrific performance boys. Well done all.
