Under-12

Carrigtwohill United – 0

Rivertown – 2

6th September 2019 – GACA

On Friday evening, the Carrigtwohill United Under-12’s made the short journey to Glanmire for their first away game in the CSL division 1. This was a keenly contested affair and both sides were evenly matched in a pulsating 1st half.

Carrigtwohill played a controlled game, passing out from the back and through the midfield to create a number of chances but their forwards, despite their best efforts, just failed to apply the finishing touch.

Riverstown in contrast moved the ball quickly and played on the counterattack, creating chances of their own but the away defence stood firm. The sides went in at the break level.

Fresh legs were introduced at half time to keep the tempo up and the same pattern continued. Again, chances were created by both sides and it felt like the team who scored first could go on to win the game and so it would be.

Midway through the 2nd half a ball through the heart of the Carrigtwohill defence was not dealt with and the Riverstown forward pounced to give his side the lead. The momentum was now with the home side and Carrigtwohill defended resiliently for the next 10 minutes before getting a foothold in the game again.

The visitors pushed Cillian up front with Kyle in search of the equaliser and left Morgan to ably hold the midfield as they poured forward in the final minutes. Just when you thought the breakthrough would come, Riverstown hit them with a sucker punch counter attack to seal the victory.

A gallant effort by all involved with Tom Walsh and Cathal Seymour(c) putting in a great shift but man of the match goes to Sean Og who was superb at left back.
