Ted Healy Cup v Leeside in Mayfield All-Weather on Sunday 13th December 2015
Carrigtwohill United 2 Leeside 4 AET
Scorer –
David Grimes 2.

Leeside booked their place in the  second round of the Ted Healy Cup with a hard fought victory over Carrrigtwohill at Mayfield Community School on Sunday. A confident Carrig side dictated the early exchanges but Leeside took the lead  against the run of play with a well taken goal after 15 minutes. Leeside’s lead lasted just 5 minutes when David Grimes got on the end of John Hyde’s corner at the back post and headed the ball to the net. Carrig continued to settle the pace of the game and were good value for their lead scoring their second after 30 minutes. Hyde’s lofted free-kick was cushioned across goal by Darragh McCann and Grimes pounced a the back post for his second goal. Carrig dominated the remaining 15 minutes of the first half but failed to make their possession count and the half finished 2-1.

Leeside made a few changes in the second half and gradually got back into the game. They were lively on the flanks and as the second half wore on they grew in confidence as they went in search of an equaliser. With just 15 minutes remaining they were level when their stricker hammered a stray deflection to the net. To their credit Carrig regrouped and were unlucky with a couple of chances before the ref blew for full time.     With the teams locked at 2-2 the tie went to extra-time.

Leeside almost found themselves behind immediately when Brendan Twomey was denied by a timely block by their keeper. Carrig were back in  the game and worked tirelessly in search of a winner but Leeside were equally determined to get a goal. The game assumed a frantic pace and in the confusion Leeside got the all important goal with just 5 minutes remaining in extra-time, their stricker scored after another deflection was cleared into his path. This time it was Carrig’s turn to go after an equaliser and they pushed forwarded but could not break down Leeside’s defence. Leeside scored their 4th goal as the ref blew for full time.
