Under-13 CSL Div 2 at Shanbally

Carrigaline Hibernians – 3

Carrigtwohill United – 2

Carrigtwohill United travelled to Shanbally to take on Carrigaline Hibs in their first match in Division 2. They were coming up against a side who had beaten them 5-0 last season so it was always going to be a very tough assignment.

The match started with a high intensity from both teams right from the outset. Carrigaline pressed hard and had numerous shots that were well saved by Cal Flavin who was playing his first match in the larger goals. Carrigtwohill were also pressing and had some great chances of their own with Hugh Crowley and Cathal Doyle managing to get some shots off but as the match settled down Carrigtwohill gradually began to dominate.

Sophia Redmond had a thunderous shot that seemed destined for the left corner but the Carrigaline keeper managed to get his finger tips to it. Sean Guiney was in impressive form, running tirelessly and creating numerous chances for the forwards.

Eoin Garvey eventually got the opener with a shot to the top right to take the lead that they deserved. Carrigtwohill were on top now and seemed to be in a good position to go on and win the game when Carrigaline got a scrappy goal against the run of play. Soon after Carrigaline added another that might have been offside.

In the second half Carrigaline extended their lead to go 3-1 but it was not a fair reflection of how the match was going. Rob Cotter and Rory Nolan were brought on and ran tirelessly and created chances. With 5 minutes to go Jack Lombard finished neatly from a free kick from Cillian McCann and set the match up for an exciting finish. But time was against them and the match finished 3-2.

Overall a good performance by the team with some excellent performances particularly by Pol O’Connor and Sam Guiney.
