Seniors MSL Div2

9th October 2022 at Ballyadam

Carrigtwohill United – 1

Lakewood Athletic – 1

The Senior team faced Lakewood at a windy Ballyadam looking to continue their good form. The wind and rain was causing havoc as both teams looked to get control of the game but it was Carrigtwohill who settled quicker and started to string some good phases together, but couldnt find the end product! After 25 minute and good defending Carrigtwohill broke with Billy Manning on the ball who played a great pass through to the onrushing Kevin Cody who composed himself to slot it past the goalkeeper. 1-0 to the home side.

This gave Carrigtwohill further encouragement to push up the field with Eric O’Sullivan and Robert Adam having good battles with the opposing fullbacks. Thanks to some excellent defending from Darragh McCann, TJ Murphy and Shane O’Hanlon Lakewood were kept at bay until the half.

The 2nd half started with Lakewood looking to equalise but Carrig were defending well with Kevin Daly and Michael Furlong both putting in crucial tackles and giving us possession to attack Lakewood but it was from a Carrigtwohill attack that Lakewood broke away on the counter attack and finished well to make it 1-1 with 20 minutes remaining.

Both teams now felt there was a result there for them but It was Carrigtwohill who created the better chances with Jason Walsh first going close and then Ian Murphy, James Furlong and Liam Gosnell all causing problems but the ball just wouldn’t fall for the home side. James O’Shaughnessy came on to shore up the defence as they pushed for a winner but unfortunately it just didn’t come. Lakewood had a couple of chances themselves but Nelly commanded his box well and dealt with everything despite the bad weather conditions

1-1 it finished and it’s on to next week for Carrigtwohill who face Wilton in the intermediate cup at Ballyadam.

Kevin Cody is this week’s player of the Match.
