League v Village United in Silverheights Park on Saturday 8th October 2016
Village United 1 Carrigtwohill United 3
Scorers – Gary O Riordan 2, Shay Omnie.
Carrigtwohill’s young guns showed a level of maturity far above their years to come away from Silverheights with all 3 points on Saturday. Playing some fantastic one touch football Village were struggling from the kick off to keep in touch. Carrig’s dominance was rewarded after 10 minutes when Fleezer played a deft 1-2 with Jamie Long who found Giddy on the angle of the box and his sublime strike to the top corner of the net. Giddy was not to wait too long for his second. Again another fantastic move this time on the right wing, Kevin O’Sullivan and Chris Horgan shared passes before finding Paul Barry whose first touch sent a peach of a ball to Giddy on the edge of the box and again his magnificent volley was dispatched with aplomb.
Carrig were as predicted put to the test in the second half and conceded 15 mins into the second half following a corner clearance, volleyed to the roof of the net. Carrigtwohill were not to denied however when Shay’s goalbound strike took a slight deflection and gave Carrig the cushion they needed to see out the last 10 mins. A super team performance which will give great belief to this young side. Stellar performances from Shane Murphy on his return and of course Giddy with his cracking goals. But man of the Match has to go stand in keeper Cormac Horgan who didn’t put a foot wrong all afternoon, made 2 unbelievable saves when he had no right to.
Player of the Match – Cormac Horgan
