Mossie Linnane Cup v Blarney Street Athletic in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 1st November 2015
Carrigtwohill United 2 Blarney Street Athletic 1
Scorers – Derek Delea, Alan Stapleton
On Sunday morning we had the task of getting into a semi final in the Mossie Linnane for the first time in club’s history. Was always going to be a tough game against a very good experience Blarney Street side. Carrigtwohill settled the better and took the on 8 min when Derek Delea was brought down and dusted himself down and slotted it away.
Blarney grew into the game winning a couple of corners but Carrig defended well. On 20 min the visitors were awarded a penalty, our keeper Adzy made a terrific save to keep Carrig in the lead. Again the game flowed with both teams trying to play but a moment of class from Blarney Street striker John Corcorcan who picked the ball up 20 yards out and smashed into roof of the net. 1 all at half time was a fair reflection of how the game was going.
Blarney Street started brighter in second half and had few strikes on goal which again Adzy was always in control. Last 20 min the game git a bit stretched and the introduction of Fleezer started to get Carrig on the front foot and grasp control. With 15 min left Fleezer smashed a shot against the post and shortly afterwards Derek should have done better after Fleezer set him up. With 10 left John Corcorcan always dangerous picked up the ball on the left wing cut in and smashed a shot passed Adzy heading for the top corner, until a moment of brilliant defending from Chuckie who somehow cleared the ball off the line with his chest.
This gave Carrig a belief it could be our day into the 90 min and a pull back to edge of the box was brilliantly dummied by Fleezer into path of Alan Stapleton who unleashed a thunderous shot in off the crossbar to win the game and send the big watching crowd into a frenzy. Up next is Blarney Street again Saturday at home in FAI junior cup.
