FAI Junior Cup v Greenwood in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 16th October 2016
Carrigtwohill United 2 Greenwood 1
Scorers – Paul Feehan, Shane Kennedy.
Carrigtwohill progressed to the next round of the FAI Junior cup with a hard fought 2-1 win over Greenwood. Carrig were very slow to get started in this game that was the cliched game of 2 halves. Injury and work committee contributed to Carrig necessitating changes in key positions from last weeks formation. A strong wind up the centre of the pitch was also a major factor. Greenwood deservedly took the lead on 30 mins when a scuffed clearance was dispatched to the back of the empty Carrigtwohill net from the half way line.
Using 5 subs Carrig had plenty of options on the bench and the introduction of Ian Kenny and John Carey in the second period assisted by the ever-present strong wind turned this game. Carrig playing better football created and scored through Paul Feehan to tie the contest. The winner came the courtesy of poor defensive play from Greenwood and Shane Kennedy bundling home from a corner. Greenwood understandably upped their game and created some chances near the end but defensively Carrig again showed good maturity to see the game out. Best for Carrigtwohill were Jamie Long and Paul Feehan. MOTM has to go to Chris Horgan.
