League v Hibernians in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 13th March 2016
Carrigtwohill United 2 Hibernians 1
Scorers –
Brendan Horgan, John Carey

After 20 weeks without a competitive game Carrig finally had a league game at home to Hibernians on Sunday morning and came away with the 3 points. Carrig put the long layoff behind them and controlled the game from the start. They got the great start that they wanted after 5 mins when a well weighted ball over the top from Tom O’Shea put Brendan Horgan through on goal and he lobbed the keeper from 12 yards. With Julius Leke and John Wade controlling midfield and John Carey getting great joy on the right, Carrig got a 2nd after 20 mins when Brendan Horgan put John Carey through with a great pass and John took it around the keeper and finished to the net. Hibernians did create a couple of chances but Davy Barry and Shane Murphy defended well and Eoghan O’Mahony produced a good save from a Hibernians free kick just before half time.

Hibernians came into the game more in the 2nd half but struggled to break down a well organised defense. Jason Walsh on the left and Brendan up front began to create real problems for the Hibs defense but the final ball was just letting Carrig down and Shay Omoniyi was unlucky to be called offside when through on goal. With 5 mins to go Hibs got back in the game. A reckless tackle on the right corner of the box gave them a free kick, which was whipped in at pace and flicked past Eoghan at the near post by the Hibs centre forward. Carrig saw out the game with possession in the Hibs half to win the well-earned 3 points.

Player of the Match – Brendan Horgan.
